Leonard Thomas Long passed away Monday, July 8,2024 in Fairfield. Mr. Long was born August 29, 1946, to parents Leonard C Long and Reba (Alford) Long. He was a 1964 graduate of Fairfield High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Tom spent his life as a rancher and had a deep passion for all animals. He loved to rope and ride horses, but nothing gave him greater joy than teaching these things to his nieces and nephews. He loved being there for his family and had a very special bond with his great-nephew Don, who always admired and looked up to the man we all came to know and love as “Uncle Tom”.

When Tom wasn’t with his family, you could find him at the rodeo having good visits with his many friends. He also never missed an opportunity to go hunting and fishing with family and friends and return with a good tall tale to share!

He truly lived life in the moment making sure he always had a grin on his face and sharing a few laughs along the way. Uncle Tom never met a stranger and had an uncanny ability to connect to others. He will always be known as being a great brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.

Left to cherish his memory are one sister, Glenda Gay Phillips of Bossier City, LA; one niece, Chancy Sanders of Bossier City, LA; a very special great nephew, Don Dunn of Fairfield; three great nieces, Christina Morgan & husband Chris of Fort Worth, Brittany Knoph & husband Blake of Teague, Samantha Sanders of Longview; four great great nieces and one great great nephew Elizabeth Mathison, Kathryn Morgan, Carson Mathison, Abigail and Madelyn Morgan. Special friend, Jamie Long & wife Rhonda, Hadley & Jace.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Patsy Long Jones and Jackie Long Parker; two nieces, Donna Parker Dunn and Jennifer Jones.

Memorial Service will be planned at a later date to ensure all out of town family and friends can attend.
