The Fairfield Lady Eagles swept the week of games and are nearing another district title as the regular season begins to wind down. The Lady Eagles all but claimed the district title with a huge win.

Fairfield hosted the Teague Lady Lions at the Johnson Activity Center on Tuesday night and jumped out to an early lead that they would hold for the entire game. Blayke Brackens score nine of her total of 15 in the first period and the Lady Eagles went on a 9-0 before A’Shaiya Jones scored to end the first period drought. Fairfield continued defensive pressure and led 16-4 after one.

Five players tallied points in the second period with numerous substitutions and Jones kept the game as close as she could by scoring eight of the eleven total Lady Lion points. Fairfield led 27-11 at the end of the first half.

Lady Eagle post player Jacelynn Schmidt did not see any action in the first half. She made her first appearance in the game in the opening moments of the third period and she scored eight quick points to add to the lead. She was significant on both ends of the floor. She added ten more in the final period to total 18 points, all in the second half. The Lady Eagles scored 24 points in the fourth period to complete a 68-27 win.

Schmidt scored 18 points and Blayke Brackens added 15 points. Kaylee Williams was the third Lady Eagle in double figures with 11 points in the win.

Fairfield travelled down I-45 to take on the second place Buffalo Lady Bison, ranked fourth in the TABC polls, with the Lady Eagles holding the fifth spot. The scheduled game time was moved up to accommodate the approaching weather.

The Lady Eagles used defensive pressure on the entire court to disrupt the Lady Bison offense. Keke Alexander and Blayke Brackens knocked the ball away and passed ahead to Kaylee Williams for easy baskets in the first period. Izzie Stone and Harper Stone scored near the basket and Williams hit a three pointer to total seven points and the Lady Eagles led 13-9 at the end of the first period.

The same pressure led to the same result by the Lady Eagles forcing more turnovers than Lady Bison points in the second period. Points were difficult to come by in the frame and Williams led the break with six more points to total 13 for the half and the Lady Eagles held a 19-11 lead.

Fairfield kept the Buffalo offense at bay for the remainder of the game and outscored the Lady Bison 25-17 to claim the victory. Brackens was scoreless in the first half and finished the game with 14 points, and ten of those came in the final quarter. Kh’Uria Forge saw extensive minutes for the first time in district play and finished with four points, two blocks and a huge rebounding night in the 44-28 win.

Brackens and Williams led the way, combining for 31 points and Izzie Stone led the Lady Bison offense with 11 points.

Fairfield takes a two game lead on the rest of the district at 8-0, and Buffalo is two games back after being swept by the Lady Eagles.

Westwood sits in third place at 4-3 and Teague and Elkhart are still in the running for a potential playoff spot.

The Fairfield Lady Eagles will have the night off on Tuesday and will host the Mexia Ladycats on Friday at the Johnson Activity Center.
