The Fairfield Lady Eagles took off on a 14-0 run to close the first quarter and into the second to defeat the Mexia Ladycats in a home district game on Friday night at the Johnson Activity Center. Fairfield improves to 18-5 on the season and leads district 20-3A.

The Lady Eagles remain in the top ten in the rankings and enter the district race as the favorites and maintain a long district winning streak.
Jaci Abram scored early, and Kaylee Williams hit a three for the Fairfield early lead. Ja’Calinn Richardson had a pair off the glass and Mycah Miller led the fast break to take a 7-5 lead in the first period. That would be the last score for the Ladycats until the mid-point of the second period. Jacelynn Schmidt, Jimilyah Nash and a final score by Abram put the Lady Eagles ahead 12-7 after one.

Schmidt passed down near the basket to Kole Brackens and she connected, and Williams added a second tray. Blayke Brackens hit a three pointer later in the period to extend the lead. Crystal Gonzalez hit the only three pointers of the game to get closer and Quinique Wisner hit a shot. Fairfield took a 28-14 lead into the halftime break.

Delaney McGowan hit a shot from a long distance and Abram tossed in a couple of scores and the lead swelled to more than twenty. Mexia hit only one of 13 shots in the period and was able to not allow the gap to increase with points at the free throw line. Wisner hit four of six at the stripe, and Mariah Hall hit a pair of free throws to still trail 37-23, heading into the final eight minutes.

The teams exchanged baskets throughout the fourth period and set the final score as a 43-31 Fairfield win. Abram led all scorers with 13 points and 11 rebounds and hit three of her four free throw attempts.
