The Fairfield Lady Eagles dominated another week and are nearing a sweep of the district and another district crown.
Fairfield began the week at the Johnson Activity Center when they hosted the Groesbeck Lady Goats. Avery Thaler and Kaylee Williams reached double digit scoring in the first half and the Lady Eagles pitched a shutout in the first half with a 50-0 lead.
Groesbeck mustered a pair of scores in the third period and Blayke Brackens added two three pointers and Williams tacked on a third in the period and Fairfield marched through the game and defeated the Lady Goats 85-6.
Williams led the way with seventeen points and Brackens added 12. Thaler tossed in fourteen points and the Lady Eagles prepped for a date with second place Franklin.
Fairfield travelled to Franklin and the Lady Lions proved to be a tough matchup for the first half. Franklin hit 11 of 12 first half free throws.
The Franklin offense poured on four three pointers to take the lead. The Lady Eagles missed twelve first half free throws and Jacelynn Schmidt scored four points and Williams led the way with eleven first half points, but the Lady Lions held a 35-31 lead.
Franklin would only have six field goals in the second half and scored only nineteen points. Fairfield erased the halftime deficit and Avery Thaler added eight in the third on her way to get the lead and pull away to a 74-54 win. Williams, Thaler, Nash and Brackens tallied double digit scoring on the night.
Fairfield leads Franklin by two games in the standings and Mexia remains a game back of Franklin in third. Teague leads a pack of teams vying for the final spot along with Groesbeck as the season winds to an end.
