The Fairfield Lady Eagles had their season come to an end to the Burnet Lady Dawgs on Friday night. Fairfield ends their season at 14-10 and they were the last team to exit the playoffs from District 18-4A.
The Bi-district game was a matchup with the Conally Lady Cadets from Waco and the game was scheduled for the K. and Ida Wolens Special Events Center on the campus of Navarro College.
Fairfield got off to a slow start, but they were able to keep the game close throughout the first half. They were tied after the first period and then Conally jumped out to a slim lead behind the hot shooting of Miannah Little.
Braden Bossier (left) began to hit the boards and the Lady Eagles cut into the lead and trailed 22-19 at the half.
The Fairfield Lady Eagles defense came to the front of the line in the second half.
Emily Knight hit a couple of three pointers and Bossier and Josey Richardson took down every rebound.
They held the Lady Cadets to 16 second half points in the 52-38 Fairfield win.
Bossier finished with 18 points and double-digit rebounds.
Knight added nine points and Jada Clark had eight leading the fast break.
Richardson scored seven with good free throw shooting down the stretch and the Lady Eagles advanced to the area round of the state playoffs.
Fairfield went to the area round to face the Burnet Lady Dawgs at Lorena High School on Friday.
Fairfield repeated the performance in the first period with a slow start.
Marissa Escamilla scored a couple of short jumpers to take a 4-0 midway through the first period and with 24 seconds remaining Fairfield scored to avoid a first period shut out and trailed 6-2 in the first.
The teams matched each other in the second period but the Lady Eagles could not stop Escamilla. She scored 11 of the first 15 points in the first half.
The ball got to Bossier a couple of times and she was able to keep the game close.
Joanna Zamora (left) hit a three pointer to draw back to within the four-point deficit and it was a Burnet 15-11 lead at the half.
The game remained close through the third period.
Kamri Griffen, along with Bossier and Richardson kept the game in single digit, but the Lady Dawgs got the ball to Trynadee Greenwell and she reached double figure scoring in the game with six points in the period.
Burnet added one point to their halftime lead and led 30-25 heading into the fourth.
Escamilla took over in the fourth period on her way to a 30-point night.
She hit six consecutive free throws and the Lady Eagles were held to one shot on each possession.
Fairfield was outscored 20-7 in the fourth and Burnet advanced with a 50-33 win and will face China Spring at Belton High School on Tuesday night.
Bossier led the Lady Eagles with nine points and Zamora added seven.
