The Fairfield Eagles dominated both games during the week and are one game from finishing a fourth straight unbeaten run-in district play.
Fairfield hosted the Mexia Ladycats at the Johnson Activity Center on Tuesday and jumped out in front early and maintained the lead throughout the game and won 59-31.
The Lady Eagles started quickly and played smothering defense and did not allow a field goal through the first period. Blayke Brackens moved the Fairfield offense with assist passes to Jimilyah Nash and Kaylee Williams. Mexia remained close from the free throw line, getting a pair from Haylee Fitch and Mycah Miller. Fairfield finished with four straight possessions ending in scores, two each by Kristavia Nelms and Nash. Fairfield led 14-4.
Brackens continued solid passing with three more assists to Williams and Jacelynn Schmidt. Schmidt added a score off an offensive rebound. The Lady Eagles hit all eight free throws in the period and added six points to their lead. Faith Abron scored six in the period and Deyonna Davis added another to keep pace, but the Lady Eagles led 32-16 at the half.
Avery Thaler scored six of her game high ten points in the third period Brackens scored two of her six points, most of the damage done with her passing ability. Mariyah Hall hit a three pointer and the Ladycats only mustered seven their comeback attempt and Fairfield led 41-23.
Jalecia McMillan and Charlee Brackens scored in the fourth and Addison Posey hit a three pointer to finish out the game with a 59-31 win.
The Fairfield Lady Eagles travelled to Elkhart to battle the Elks and the Fairfield defensive pressure turned in another stellar performance. Elkhart earned two free throws in the first and no field goals and the Lady Eagles led 43-2 at the half. Thaler scored 14 in the first half and Williams added 11 to build a big lead. Nash poured in six points, all in the second period.
Fairfield maintained the defensive effort and scored only 20 in the second half while maintaining the huge lead. Whitehead scored seven of the nine Lady Elk points and the Fairfield Lady Eagles won the game 63-11.
Fairfield will finish the regular season at home against Palestine Westwood. They have clinched the district title and Franklin and Mexia have clinched playoff spots. The three-way tie for fourth place between Groesbeck, Teague and Elkhart should sort itself out over the next week.
