The Fairfield Lady Eagles took two wins in district play and lead the district as the playoff chase looms. Fairfield dominated Mexia at the Johnson Activity Center and then won against the Madisonville Lady Mustangs on the road Friday night.
The Lady Eagles hosted Mexia and had to overcome some hot shooting early for the win. Treece and Precious Daily hit early three pointers and the Ladycats led 14-12 at the end of the first quarter. Josey Richardson (pictured at left) and Belle Johnson connected from long distance to keep the game within a possession.
Fairfield built a slim lead on a couple of passes from Braden Bossier to players cutting to the basket to lead 19-16. Yazmine Green led a charge late in the first half and were able to add to the lead and Mexia maintained a 27-23 halftime lead.
The game had a polar opposite change in the second half and the Lady Eagles pulled away. Mexia missed all 16 shots in the third period and Fairfield made their first four to quickly take the lead. Bossier was the receiver of a couple passes and she cashed in with four quick points. Freshman Breyunna Dowell contributed to the passing game with one to Te’Yallla Simpson for the basket. Dowell and Bossier connected on free throws for a 22 point quarter and a nine point lead heading into the fourth.
Dowell continued her big night and the shots kept falling for Fairfield. She scored 12 of her 22 points in the final quarter. She added four steals and sent outlet passes to Jada Clark for four straight points. The 27 points in the fourth quarter made for a 49-18 second half and the Lady Eagles won 72-45.
Bossier hit seven of 13 shots and added 12 rebounds and seven assists on the night. Dowell scored 22 and had eight rebounds.
Fairfield travelled to Madisonville on Friday night and took care of the Lady Mustangs in an exciting contest 46-43.
The Lady Eagles lead the district with Mexia and Palestine trailing. Fairfield takes on Palestine this week in an important 19-4A contest.
