The Fairfield Lady Eagles kept their hold on the District 20-3A lead with two dominant victories over potential playoff teams.
The week began at the Johnson Activity Center with a game against the Franklin Lady Lions. Franklin was one of the top teams shooting from the perimeter in the region, however, the Lady Eagle defense forced the Lady Lions to miss all 14 shots from outside the arch.
Fairfield jumped out to a quick 11-0 start on two quick scores by Breyunna Dowell on passes from McKinna Brackens. Shadasia Brackens honed her passing skills by dishing for three more scores to Dowell and Jarahle Daniels. Franklin managed a score and a foul shot to cut into the lead but the Lady Eagles held a 20-5 lead after one period.
From midway through the first period through the third period, the Lady Eagles went on a 45-7 run, including a shutout in the third period (18-0). Easy scores via the great pass allowed McKinna Brackens and eventually, Dowell led to the big run.
Fairfield did not miss a shot in the fourth period and closed out a 74-17 win and hand the Lady Lions their first loss in district play. Dowell had 23 points and Shadasia Brackens and Daniels added 14 points each on the night.
The Friday game was moved up to 5pm in Crockett when some COVID-19 restrictions came into play, closing down some area schools.
The Lady Eagles made it look easy for the first half, blowing the game open with a 55-6 halftime lead. Dowell dominated the interior play with 13 of her game high 23 in the first period. Emori Davis, drawing her first start of the district season, showed her value early with some tough inside play with the very physical Crockett Lady Bulldogs. She scored 14 points on the night and the rout was on.
Several reserves played through the second half and Jimilyah Nash nailed a three to end the third period and Avery Thaler scored eight in the paint, making that the large scoring spot for Fairfield with the points from Dowell and Thaler.
The Lady Eagles will begin the second half of district play this week.
