The Fairfield Lady Eagles took off on a 40-2 run in Mexia on Friday night to run by the Ladycats 69-17 in their first district game of the new year. The remain on top of the district standings as the only unbeaten team in the group, one game ahead of the Buffalo Lady Bison.
Seniors Blayke Brackens and Kaylee Williams teamed up with stern backcourt defense that turned into turnovers and easy scores for Fairfield. Brackens scored six in the first period and Williams followed with five, one from long distance. Fairfield jumped out with the first 16 points of the game, however, the Ladycats went on a 9-0 run to end the period, seven scored by Makayla Jackson, and trail 17-9 at the end of the period.
Fairfield played the entire roster with substitutions throughout and continued the long run of consecutive points. Brackens had five points, one of those a three pointer. Kole Brackens hit a pair of free throws and Jacelynn Schmidt scored a pair of baskets off steals and they added 17 points to the lead and held a 34-9 halftime lead.
The Lady Eagles continued the defensive pressure and would combine to outscore the Ladycats 40-2 run. Brackens and Williams teamed up for ten of the points in the frame and Schmidt scored ten of her total of 14 in the second half. Samayah Wiley hit a three pointer in the fourth period and the Lady Eagles finished off a 69-17 win.
Allie Wilson and Jackson finished with seven each to lead the Ladycats. Brackens and Williams combined for 37 points, Williams leading the way with 19.
Fairfield will return to the Johnson Activity Center on Tuesday to take on the Elkhart Lady Elks and then take to the road on Friday to battle the Palestine Westwood Lady Panthers.
