The Fairfield Lady Eagles won all three relays and outran the competition and were named the champions of District 20-3A track at Eagle Stadium in Fairfield last week. The top four in each event will return to Eagle Stadium to run, throw and jump in the area meet.
NaKayla Conner won the 100 meter dash over Triniti Reagor of Mexia, who finished as the runner up in the 100 meter and 200 meter. Jimilyah Nash took a third place finish in the 200 meter, won by Madelyn McFadden of Franklin. McFadden won the 400 meter ahead of Mollie Sims and Jolee Haley of Teague.
Sims made the turn to run the 800 meters and took second in the event, again behind McFadden, claiming her third gold medal of the meet. Fairfield distance runner Madison Russell finished fourth in the 3200 meter run and qualified for the area meet.
In the hurdles events, Emma Smith of Fairfield finished fourth in the 100 meter and qualified for the area meet. She finished second in the longer hurdle event, the 300 meter and was joined by Kaylee Williams and her third place finish.
Lady Eagle runners, Conner, Avery Thaler, Shadasia Brackens, and Madox Mitcheal dominated the sprint relay with a three second win over Mexia. Teague finished third in the event. The same four returned to win the 4×200 meter relay by a full eight seconds over the second place finisher, Westwood, followed by Teague and Mexia. Lillian McBean ran the mile relay, with Mitcheal, Thaler and Brackens and the same result ensued, a 14 second gap with Elkhart, Franklin and Westwood taking the final three area meet spots.
Fairfield qualified three for the area meet in the Long jump. Avery Thaler won the event with a jump of 16’ 7.5” and Londyn Hollard of Elkhart finished second. NaKayla Conner and Nash took third and fourth. McKinna Brackens had a second place finish in the shot put, won by Michaiah Miller of Mexia. McKinna Brackens dominated the discus throw with a first place toss of 122 feet, 15 feet over the second place finisher.
Lady Eagle track stars took the top three places in the triple jump. Shadasia Brackens topped the 36 feet marker and won the event. Avery Thaler and Kaylee Williams qualified for the area meet with second and third place finishes. Brackens won the high jump with a brilliant leap of 5’10” and will seek another berth at the state track meet, where she won a medal.
Fairfield scored 181 points to win the meet with Franklin coming in as the runner up with 165 points.
The Fairfield boys qualified some runners for the area meet next week. Jerry Draper was the second place finisher in the 3200 meter run. Duran Alonzo of Franklin was the event winner. The relay team of Richard Carter, Eli Castillo, Cam Daniels and Cal Wilson finished fourth in the sprint relay won by Teague, followed by Mexia and Franklin.
Cam Daniels finished third in the Long Jump. Collin Glass finished four in the shot put. Julio Roque took a third place finish in the discus.
