Graveside services for L. C. Scruggs, 85, will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Union Cemetery near Freestone. Bro. Carl Clark will officiate.
There will be no visitation.
Mr. Scruggs passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at Ascension Providence Hospital in Waco.
He was born in the Turlington community of Freestone County on June 12, 1938, and lived in Freestone County almost all of his life. He worked as a truck driver from 1958 to 1995 for Red Ball, Jones Freight, and Consolidated Freight. L. C. also drove a school bus for Teague ISD from 1996 until 2011. He helped raise numerous children with his wife’s day care business in Teague over many years. Mr. Scruggs enjoyed gardening, working outdoors around his property, but most of all he loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by three sons, Kelly Scruggs & wife Cheryl, William C. Scruggs & wife Melissa, and Kevin Scruggs & wife Penny; six grandchildren, Stephen Scruggs and Emily Adams, Lauren Saldana & husband Jonathan, Ty Scruggs & wife Jessica, Lane Scruggs & wife Bailey, Korey Scruggs and wife Christina, Tiffany Gauntt and Daniel Terrell; great-grandchildren, Ross Scruggs, Wesley Gustafson, Peyton Scruggs, Madelyn Saldana, Karson Scruggs, Blair Gauntt, Brynleigh Gauntt, Blayne Gauntt, Sophie Scruggs, Erin Terrell, Tate Scruggs, and Ava Saldana (to be born in December); two sisters, Fay Ward and Grace Pannell; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mr. Scruggs was preceded in death by his wife Mollie Scruggs; parents, Johnny & Sarah (Burton) Scruggs; five sisters, Lizzie Crouch, Mary Lee Landers, Jewell Morris, Ellen Gunter, and Sarah Ann Poteet; three brothers, Carter Scruggs, Clarence Scruggs, and Newman Scruggs; two sisters-in-law, Erna Moffett & husband Herman, and Martha Gilliam & husband Glyn; one brother-in-law, Billy (B.J) Harris & wife Rolene; father-in-law, William Harris and wife Lois.
