The Dewey Knit & Crochet group celebrated their first year anniversary at Fairfield Public Library with an Open House on Tuesday, September 4, 2018.
Teacher Linda Upton greeted visitors as several members worked on their projects.
“The name comes from the library’s Dewey Decimal System,” says Upton.
Knitting soft chemo hats for cancer patients, plastic mats for the homeless (each made from about 50 plastic grocery bags), and afghan blankets for local nursing homes and hospice organizations, this group has their hands on a little bit of everything.
According to Upton, they even crochet 85 small red hats for the Red Cross organization. These were given to newborns during a heart health promotion.
Dewey Knit & Crochet meets at Fairfield Public Library on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
The classes are free. Upton also helps with individual projects.
Upton leads another Freestone County knitting group called Hooks, Sticks & Needles, who meet every Thursday at Teague Public Library from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
