Grab your aprons and let’s get cooking!

Youth ages 7 to 16 years are invited to come out for a day of creativity and fun by enteritng the Kids Cook-off on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at the Big T Memorial Cook-Off and Music Festival.

Cost is $15.

Sliders will be on the menu for this contest.

All entries must be a cooked slider. This means that some part of the slider will have to actually be cooked from a raw state on a heat source on site. Meatless entries are allowed, but all entries must still be cooked on site, i.e., grilled/roasted veggies or fruit.

Your entry must be prepared completely on site and from a raw state within a two-hour cooking time frame. Buns are the only exception to this. Any buns, or bun alternative, may be used. Lunch meats and pre-cooked or pre-marinated meats/meat alternatives/veggies will not be allowed.

There will be two categories divided by age groups: 7-11 year olds and 12-16 year olds. Enter as an individual, or as a team of two.

Youth entering the contest must be able to cook independently.

Both age groups must have an adult (over 18) mentor on site for the entire cooking time. Mentors are allowed to assist when safety is an issue, and verbal instruction is allowed.

Limited electricity will be available on a first come, first serve basis. Cooking recommended on a wood fired, charcoal, or propane apparatus.

Big T Memorial will not be responsible for uncooked entries, and no refunds will be issued if things such as tripped breakers happen at that cook site.

All entries will be provided a designated space, approximately measured 10’X10’. Contestants must provide their own cooking apparatus, utensils, and any extras they would like, such as tables or canopy tents.

A minimum of six (6) sliders are needed for judging. Judges will score each entry based on creativity, appearance, and taste.

Big T Memorial will do their best to accommodate children with special needs wishing to enter the competition, and extra supportive help will be allowed if needed. Please contact Shannon Margraves by email at shannonmargraves@yahoo.com with any special questions and/or requests.

“We want all the kids entering to come out and have fun above all else,” say organizers. “We hope this event sparks some creativity in our area youth, and they will discover new skills they can use to do amazing things in the future!”

Kids Cook-off will be held on Saturday, September 8th at the fairgrounds. Registration and set-up will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.

Cooking officials starts at 11:00 a.m. Food must be ready for the judges by 1:00 p.m.
