Fairfield Intermediate School introduces its new pilot program, PAIRS, to begin this school year.
PAIRS, Positive Adults Investing in Relationships & Success, is a program designed to pair identified students with community mentors based on interests, hobbies, occupation, talents, and the like.
During the 2017-2018 school year, twelve fifth grade students will be chosen to participate in this program that will run the entire school year.
If this year is a success, the plan is to extend it to more students and other grades.
The mission of the PAIRS program is to improve academic achievement, self-esteem, social competence, and avoidance of high-risk behavior by providing a relationship with a caring adult friend who works to help youth achieve their potential.
The goal is to see that every young person has the supportive relationships they need to grow and develop into thriving, productive, and engaged adults by promoting positive relationships, community involvement, respect, and achievement.
Mentors chosen to participate in this program will need to attend Mentor Training and a ‘PAIRS Kick-Off’ program in September, commit to 30 minutes to spend with the student AT LEAST twice a month (preferably every week) for the entire school year, and attend the End-of-the-Year celebration in May with the student and their family.
