Kathryn Lucille (York) Alford, (91), a lifelong resident of Fairfield, Texas. passed away Friday December 24, 2021.
Graveside Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 29th at Lake Chapel Cemetery with Pastor Frank Freeman officiating. Honorary Pallbearers are Mitch York, Caleb York, Jason McCormick, Griffin McCormick, Hank Odneal, Coy Pierce, and Don Awalt.
Kathryn was born August 2, 1930, in the Grange Hall community to parents Ruben Harrison York and Mary Kathrine (Willard) York. She married John Allen Alford Sr. On August 4, 1948, at the home of the justice of the peace. She spent their married life working right by his side at K-Way Builders Supply. They welcomed son John Jr. in ‘54 and daughter Kathy Denise in ‘56. He preceded her in death in November of 1982. After his death she began a 10-year career at the Mexia State School from which she retired in 1993. Kathryn was an excellent cook. She looked forward to Sunday lunches and family events. She was an avid sports fan watching the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, and Texas Longhorns anytime they were on TV. She loved playing games with her Grandsons. Among her favorite games were Dominos, Jenga, and Trouble. She had a standing weekly beauty shop appointment with Annette Gilliam which she rarely missed until her health began to fail. Although she didn’t attend church she listened on television to Dr Stanley and read her bible nightly. Kathryn was a student throughout her life, and her thirst for knowledge was evident by the detailed notes of everything she had seen on TV and wanted to discuss, kept in a notebook beside her chair. In addition to her parents and husband John Sr., she was preceded in death by a beloved niece Amy Kathryn York, and brothers Harry Donald York, and Adron Dwain York.
Left to Cherish her memory is her son John Allen Alford Jr. and wife Mary Jean of Fairfield, Daughter Denise Alford of Fairfield, Brother William York and wife Iva of Fairfield, Sister Jackie McCormick and husband John of Woodville. Grandsons: John Allen Alford III and partner Kaylee of Fairfield, Hunter Alford and partner Mckree of San Marcus. Great grandchildren: Garrett, Preslee, Cash and Elizabeth Kate. Numerous nieces & nephews.
