July came in slightly above normal on rainfall at 2.19 inches with only three days with measurable rainfall. Normal rainfall for July is 1.95 inches. Total rainfall for the year stands at 35.14 inches. Normal rainfall through July is 25.18 inches.
Temperature-wise, July ran four degrees above normal at an average daily temperature of 87 degrees due to very little cloud cover and thirty 90 degree plus days. High temperature for the month was 99 degrees on July 22 and 25.
Starting this month, I will begin using average rainfall data for the last 20 years (1996-2015) as normal rainfall data. Normal data previously used was the latest official data available and was for the period 1971-2000.

LOOKING AHEAD TO AUGUST: August is normally our second driest and second hottest month of the year at a normal of 2.43 inches of rainfall and an average daily temperature of 82 degrees. However, on August 6, (the mid-point of summer) we normally start downhill temperature-wise. That is, on average, temperatures normally peak around summer’s mid-point. Keep in mind though, it is on an average and with temperature currently running above, normal, it could happen later than August 6.
The above rainfall and temperature data was recorded by Barney Leach, former volunteer co-op weather observer for the National Weather Service.
