Joyce B. Freeman, 89, of Fairfield, died Wednesday, March 14, 2018 in Fairfield. Memorial services were held 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 19, 2018 at Round Prairie Baptist Church with Bro. Ed Ridge officiating.
Mrs. Freeman was born July 18, 1928 in Fairfield to parents Henry and Josephine Henderson Brown. She was valedictorian of the 1944 graduating class at Fairfield High School. She earned her BBA degree from Sam Houston State Teachers College and taught mathematics, her first teaching job was in Buffalo.
She married Gene Freeman on December 24, 1948 in Teague. Gene’s job carried he and Joyce to many places but Fairfield was home.
As well as teaching she did tax preparation work for many years, was licensed and did some real estate work in her later years and she loved crossword puzzles.
She was a long time active member of Round Prairie Baptist Church serving in many capacities including secretary/treasurer and Sunday School teacher.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband Gene; three sons, Donald Wade Freeman and wife Lou Ann Thompson of Milan, Michigan; David Arnett Freeman and wife Kathy of Milan, Michigan; Darrell Ray Freeman and wife Trisha of Colorado; two brothers, James Brown of Orlando, Florida; Carlton Brown of Missouri; three sisters, Doris Lilly of Colorado; Gloria Cowart of Colorado; Dolores Johnson and husband Robert; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
