John Michael (Mike) Mooneyham, Sr., 67, passed away on March 22, 2023. Mike was born on May 13, 1955, in Houston, Mississippi to William Doxie Mooneyham and Mary Louise Stroup Mooneyham.
Mike arrived in Fairfield in 1978 to temporarily work for a company, test core drilling for coal. He remained a resident of Fairfield, Texas for more than four decades. He worked for TXU at the coal mine for over two decades and reached the level of master electrician.
Mike is survived by his wife of over 42 years, Kimberlee Kitchens Mooneyham, whom he married August 8, 1980, in Fairfield, Texas.
Together, Mike and Kim had three children. He is survived by their three sons, John Michael Mooneyham, Jr. and wife Awna, Robert Matthew (Matt) Mooneyham, and William Nicholas (Nick) Mooneyham and fiancé Michaela Salewsky.
Mike survived many life-threatening illnesses, including several types of cancer, for over 15 years. His love for his children helped him persevere through years of treatment and surgeries. He was able to see his sons graduate from college and start their careers. His children brought him great joy and strength.
Mike was the youngest of four siblings. He is survived by two brothers, Bobby Mooneyham and wife Jennifer, and Ronnie Mooneyham and wife Gladys. He is also survived by his sister, Nina Terry. He is preceded in death by his brother-in-law Jim Terry.
Mike was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Fairfield, Texas. A memorial service was held on April 1, at the church.
