Joan Laura “Sissy” McDonald, 71, departed her earthly life Saturday, December 10, 2016 in Waco, TX. Graveside services were held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at Fairfield Cemetery with Evangelist Don Thornton officiating.
Sissy was born July 1, 1945 in Sutter County, California to Frank Huckaby McDonald and Addie Elaine (Goff) McDonald. After her father’s WWII military service the family located in Texas City and Dickinson, Texas, for a few years, then moved to Fairfield, her father’s hometown. Sissy entered 5th grade in Fairfield and was a 1963 graduate of Fairfield High School. She gave birth to her son, Clinton McDonald Coleman, August 24, 1981. Sissy had a career as an American Airlines flight attendant until she retired.
Sissy was preceded in death by her father in 1958, her mother in 1998, a half-sister, Sonya Machemehl of Alabama, in 2009, and her sister, Janet Elizabeth “Jan” McDonald Patterson in 2014. She is survived by her son, Clinton McDonald Coleman, wife Rachel, grandson Cash, and granddaughter Bailey of Portland, Texas; brother in laws, Roy Patterson of Fairfield, and Charles A. Machemehl of Alabama; nephew Roy Lynn Patterson, wife Jana, and daughter Natalie and a host of friends and relatives.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to be made to the Freestone Cancer Support Group, Inc. PO Box 1522, Fairfield, TX 75840.
Funeral arrangements for the family were conducted by Capps Memorial Chapel of Fairfield, Texas.
