Sergeant Jimmy Neal Chancey, 70, passed away and went to be with his Lord and Savior in Teague, TX on October 25, 2018.
A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served as an E-5 Sergeant in Bravo Company, 1-34 Infantry Battalion, 24th Infantry Division where he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Two Overseas Bars, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Sgt. Chancey was born on November 16, 1947 in Conroe, TX to Johnny Dale & Ruth Evelyn Chancey.
In 1967, he joined the armed forces and was assigned to the 5th US Army stationed in Fort Riley, KS. He faithfully served his country in Vietnam as a 1st Class Gunner from March of 1968 through March of 1969. His company fought valiantly in the midst of some of the heaviest fighting of the Vietnam war around the Saigon province. He was honorably discharged from active service on November 26, 1969 but continued to serve as a reservist until November 23, 1973.
Sgt. Chancey was a brave and loyal soldier, as well as a patient and loving father.
He married Toni Gillis Chancey in Conroe, TX on July 18, 1970.
Jimmy Chancey was an expert craftsman and man of many talents. He could build just about anything with his hands. He worked in the Greater Houston, and more specifically Conroe, area as a pipefitter, carpenter, craftsman, fence builder, and maintenance supervisor.
He could easily be found serving his church with special projects or attending to his immediate and extended family with his BBQ skills that brought him so much joy.
He was known to spend countless hours and diligence to build special gifts for his loved ones. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman and loved to take his grandboys with him to enjoy the outdoors. With everything he did, he was sure to leave his imprint and his special touch.
He is survived by his wife, Toni Gillis Chancey; daughters, Sonoma Aynn Adkins and husband Tony of Teague, TX; Savannah Leigh Loveless and Husband Dustin of Burkburnett, TX; his five grandchildren, Coulton Young Woods & Wife Melissa of Conroe, TX , Houston Mitchell Woods and Wife Cassandra of Centerville, TX , McKenna Aynn Woods and Chris Burns of Dew, TX, Salah Marie Loveless and Silas Paul Loveless of Burkburnett, TX; and his five great-grandchildren, Corbin James Woods, Conner Lee Woods, Demetrius James Brackens, Kinsley Grace Burns and Talana Chanel Burns; his brothers, Robert Chancey and Wife Annette, Ray Chancey and Wife Carolyn, Johnny Chancey and Wife Belinda; his sister Ruby Hunt and Husband Roy; his sisters-in-law, Peggy Chancey and Barbara Chancey; and his brother-in-law, Martin Williams.
He is preceded in death by his brothers, Walter Chancey and Mike Chancey; his sister, Marilyn Sue Williams; and his parents Johnny Dale & Ruth Evelyn Chancey.
The viewing will take place at McNutt Funeral Home in Conroe, TX on October 28, 2018.
The funeral will be held at Living Word Church of Conroe, TX with the burial immediately following.
The service will be officiated by Reverend Harold Morton.
