Mr. Vance passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2018, surrounded by his family, at his residence in Teague.

Known to many as “G-Daddy”, Jim was born in Odessa on March 24, 1950, to Otis and Anna Lee Hall Vance. He moved to Teague as a child and graduated from Teague High School with the class of 1968. He married Mary Jean Stringer on June 3, 1972, and shared over forty-six years of marriage together.

Jim worked for BNSF Railroad in Teague from February 1973 until an accident forced his early retirement in July 1991. While not working, Jim was able to spend countless hours with his grandchildren. He drove them to all kinds of appointments and events for many years. One of Jim’s favorite pastimes was watching his grandchildren compete in numerous sports.

He loved to hunt and, along with his friend, Richard Steen, established Comanche Kennels where he raised and trained bird dogs. Jim also enjoyed traveling, especially taking ski trips and was very happy to have skied with almost all of his grandchildren. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Teague.

Jim is survived by his wife, Mary Jean Vance of Teague; one son, Clay Vance & wife Sheree of Kerens; two daughters, Andee Myers & husband Brett of Teague and Emily Driskell & husband Jamie of Malakoff; ten grandchildren, Brady Vance, Lindsey Vance, Cayla Cross, Brooke Cross, Grayson Myers, Lane Fuentes, Gabby Myers, Josie Driskell, Judson Driskell, and Jack Driskell; one great-grandchild, Caytinn Cross; one brother, John Vance & wife Kathy of Ennis; one sister, Anne Vance of Teague; one sister-in-law, Lisa Pryor & husband Greg of Tomball; nieces and nephews, Kimberly Vance Baker & husband Jason, Jonathan Vance & wife April, Stephanie Vance & husband Stewart Youngblood, Jay Vance, Todd Pryor, Meridith Pryor, and Lance Pryor & wife Brittany; and many friends.
