James F. Sherber IIÿeoŸÿ¡×³‰ßk
He was born at home on March 24, 1945, in Houston, Texas to James and Stella Inabnitt Sherber. Jimmy grew up in Houston with his 5 siblings – Peggy, Sammy, Barbara, Myrna and Doug. He loved riding horses and raising animals. After graduating from Aldine High School, Jimmy married his sweetheart, Shiela Godkin, and went to work at Missouri Pacific Railroad for 15 years.
Jimmy and Shiela bought land in Fairfield as weekend property but soon fell in love with the area. They decided to raise their children in the country, so they moved to Fairfield in 1979 and never looked back. Jimmy took up farming and ranching and had a successful hay business with his family. Eventually, Jimmy became interested in the meat processing industry when neighbors would observe the Sherbers butchering their own cattle and ask if he could do that for them as well. J&S Processing was born in 1983. Jimmy retired in 2007 and started raising mules for trail rides as a hobby.
Jimmy loved traveling and spending time with family. He enjoyed reunions, road trips with his kids and grandkids, and cruises with his brothers and sisters.
If you could ask him, Jimmy would say his greatest accomplishment was when he asked Jesus into his heart at the age of 16. He raised his children in the knowledge of Christ, and this legacy lives on through his extended family. James served as deacon at Fairfield Christian Center for many years helping others in need whenever he could.
In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Gerganess and his son David Sherber.
He survived by his wife of 61 years, Shiela Ann Godkin Sherber; daughter Rebekah (Eric) Peterson and grandkids, Avery Peterson and Adalyn Peterson; son Timothy (Kari) Sherber and grandkids, Brennan Sherber, Karlee Sherber, James Sherber III, Stella Sherber, Timber Sherber and Bayler Sherber. He has one great grandson, Aaron Sherber.
Visitation will be Monday, November 10th from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at Fairfield Christian Center. Funeral Service will be 11:00am Tuesday, November 11th at Fairfield Christian Center. Burial will follow at Lake Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Avery Peterson, James Sherber III, Sam Sherber Jr., Randy Rowlett, Jason Sherber, Roger Inabnitt, Nathan Turner. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Carey, Rusty Carey, Steven Sherber.
