We were blessed last week to an inspiring interview with Santa Claus, thanks to the assistance of local Fairfield elf, Tommy Lynch.

Here’s what the big man had to say for himself:

–What’s your favorite color?

My favorite color is white, which to me represents Christ and the absence of sin.

–When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

My dream as a child was to be someone kind, someone who would make people smile.

–With all the special appearances you make during the month of December, how do you find the time to get everything ready for the big night?

I have a group of mothers and fathers who are filled with love for their family and friends and a desire to help the less fortunate.  They are the heart of Christmas.

–Besides delivering gifts to children, what is one of your family’s favorite Christmas traditions?

One of my favorite traditions is helping Mrs. Claus to decorate, and revisiting the ornaments and mementos we have acquired over many years, and remembering.

We also seek out those who might be alone and invite them to share in our joy.

–Any advice for boys and girls about staying on the “Good” list?

My advice to the girls and boys about being good is that they are already good; they just need to show their goodness to others.  Give to someone else, even if it is just a smile or a hug.

–What do you want for Christmas this year?

What I want more than anything for Christmas is for all of us to treat each other with integrity and kindness.  Share “the tidings of great joy.”

–After you’ve made all your deliveries for the night, do you have any special plans for Christmas Day?

After all is done and my boots are set aside for slippers, I like to thank all of those who gave me smiles and hugs, and made me proud to know their efforts were unselfish.

Also, I have plans for a big cup of hot chocolate and a chocolate chip cookie with my favorite song, Little Drummer Boy, playing in the background.

Thanks to St. Nick for taking time out of his busy schedule.

Merry Christmas, everyone!
