A particularly friendly bunch of Jack-O-Lanterns drew attention to themselves on Halloween by happily comparing how they were styled for the 2020 season.
Of course, I sat down to ask them a few questions about how the Halloween season went for them.
As a young pumpkin, did you want to become a Jack-O-Lantern?
Of course! Pumpkins are raised thinking about the joys of being a happy family’s pumpkin and the long history of duty we have.
Which do you prefer, a super spooky, scary face, a smiley face, or something different and unique?
Now I like something old fashioned, a basic spooky face, but my friend here, she likes a happy face with a smile because the children make her so happy.
It really just varies depending on pumpkin, just like costumes are different for each human.
At night – do you see any ghost or spooky monsters?
Oh yes! All the time, especially on Halloween, some even walk around getting candy! But, the ghost don’t seem to like how our candles flicker.
Do you ever get scared?
The only thing that scares a Jack-O-Lantern is never becoming one in the first place! It is a terrible fear all us pumpkins share.
And of course sneezes, I was never scared of a sneeze before, but for some reason everyone panics when someone sneezes.
Do you feel like a hero for keeping all the creatures of the night away?
Absolutely, when something tries to go BUMP in the night, we make shine our lights in that direction. Whatever it is normally takes off after that.
Now level with me, what do you think about during the day when you’re off duty?
Pumpkin things, like wondering what makes the sky so blue, who all are visiting with me on the porch today, and most importantly what is inside the magical door?
What is your favorite costume you see on Halloween?
I gotta be honest with you; my all time favorite is when a small human dresses up like a me!
One last question, Halloween is over, what do you plan to do afterwards?
Truth is, us Jack-o-Lanterns are very short lived, and we know that after Halloween we are to be rewarded by going to the great pumpkin patch in the sky.
There you have it – the daily life of a Jack-o-Lantern.
