One more day of Early Voting left before Election Day, and voter turnout has already busted a few records.

A total of 4,862 voters have cast their ballots in Freestone County as of Sunday, October 25, 2020. This includes in-person voting and mail-in ballots received to date.

Turnout represents 38.96% of registered voters, so far.

Looking over the past twenty years, only two presidential races had higher turnout rates for Early Voting: 39.83% in 2016 (Trump vs. Clinton) and 41.88% in 2004 (Bush vs. Kerry).

Early Voting ends Friday, October 30th. Election Day on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 will determine the winners in a multiple a races.

In additional to National, State, and County elections, voters are also casting ballots for City Council and School Board.

Typically held during the month of May, these added elections were postponed due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

Also on the ballot is a proposition for those residing in Fairfield Hospital District.

SPECIAL HOSPITAL BOARD ELECTION

A Special Rollback Election has been called for Fairfield Hospital District for Voting “for” or “against” the proposition for “Reducing the tax rate in Fairfield Hospital District for the current year from 0.215 to 0.137203.”

It is important to note that the current year actually refers to the 2019-2020 fiscal year. When the Hospital District was required to postpone the election, they were legally not allowed to change the wording on the ballot.

Essentially, the rollback proposition, should it pass, would affect property taxes that have already been collected.

This means that taxpayers would receive a refund for the difference between the two rates. The refund would amount to 0.077797 cents per $100 property valuations from the 2019-2020 fiscal year.

Voting “For” the proposition would mean a small refund for taxpayers.

Voting “Against” the proposition would allow Fairfield Hospital District to keep those monies that have already been collected.
