Veteran healthcare executive will lead ScionHealth’s three community hospitals located in eastern Texas.
Doug Holzbog, MBA, has been appointed Market CEO for Ennis Regional Medical Center, Palestine Regional Medical Center and Parkview Regional Hospital. Holzbog will be based at Palestine but oversee operations at the three facilities. He begins his new tenure on April 22.
“We are excited to bring Doug on board in this newly created position to lead our three hospitals in eastern Texas,” said Brian Walton, President of ScionHealth’s Community Hospital Division. “He is a great fit for what we are trying to accomplish as the healthcare system of choice for each of the communities these hospitals serve.”
Holzbog comes to ScionHealth from North Alabama Shoals Hospital, where he held the position of Chief Operating Officer. In that role, Holzbog led his hospital’s significant success in challenges faced by most community hospitals ‒ patient volumes, service line growth, recruiting providers, and building physician relationships.
The Market CEO position marks a bit of a homecoming for Holzbog, who earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology at Texas A&M University – Commerce and spent the first 24 years of his career leading a medical and legal billing company in Denison, Texas. He transitioned into hospital management in 2013 and has led physician operations in facilities from Oklahoma to Tennessee, including a two-year tenure at a sister ScionHealth hospital, Southwestern Medical Center in Lawton, Oklahoma.
“As a native Texan, I am very excited to be returning home as the Market CEO to work with the teams at the Palestine, Mexia, and Ennis hospitals,” said Holzbog. “I look forward to getting to know our teams, learning more about our community needs, and championing the advancement of care to the people we serve.”
Holzbog attained a Master of Business Administration – Healthcare Management from Western Governors University. He and his wife Charla have four children and seven grandchildren.
