Freestone County Deputies, along with Fairfield and Wortham PDs and DPS were involved in a chase that ended in a rollover on I-45 on Friday evening, May 19, 2017.
That evening, Freestone County Deputies were dispatched to a disturbance on I-45 at mile marker 194.
The caller stated that he had a flat tire and was waiting on a tire service vehicle to arrive.
While waiting, the caller noticed a passenger truck parked on the shoulder in front of him. Two white males from the other vehicle approached the caller and started harassing him.
While the caller was on the phone, one of the men walked past him and climbed onto his trailer and broke into one of the vehicles he was hauling. The caller yelled at the male and both men ran off into a wooded area.
Deputies arrived, trying to locate the men, and while searching were notified by dispatch that a white male stopped at a house on Hwy 75 South, about 3 miles south of Fairfield, asking for help because their truck had broken down. The resident stated that they pointed the male towards Fairfield.
A short time later, dispatch advised deputies that a black Chevy double cab pickup with a flatbed had just been stolen from a residence on south highway 75.
Within a couple of minutes, Fairfield Police observed the stated stolen truck and a vehicle pursuit began.
FCSO Deputies joined the pursuit that ended on the on-ramp to I-45 off of FM 833 when the driver lost control of the stolen truck and rolled 2 to 3 times before being ejected from the vehicle.
The driver was identified as Cameron Blake Gerecht from Palmer, Texas.
Gerecht was transported to Freestone Medical Center to be medically cleared then booked into FCSO jail for the following: 1) Burglary of Vehicle, 2) Unauthorized Use of a Motor vehicle, and 3) Evading in a Motor Vehicle.
It should be noted that the other male that ran off was not in the stolen truck and was never located.
Departments involved in this incident include FCSO Deputies, Fairfield PD, Wortham PD, and DPS.
