Area law enforcement was led on a high-speed-chase through Freestone County on Sunday evening, July 8th.
The chase began in Wortham on North Highway 14 when Wortham PD Officer Price and Reserve Officer Winston checked the speed of a white Ford Explorer that was traveling at 68 mph in a 55 mph zone.
When the officers attempted to make a traffic stop, the driver of the Explorer refused to stop and evaded, making a right turn onto Comal Street, striking a vehicle in the opposite lane, then a telephone pole on the next block.
The pursuit continued to Main Street, headed east until the road dead-ended into a pasture and exited in the Twin Circle Addition and onto Highway 27 to Fairfield.
Once in Fairfield, the vehicle entered the Westwood Addition, where it ran through a yard and took out part of a fence before coming to a stop.
The Explorer was occupied by Jeremy Driggers, 37, and Jamie Gregory, 22. Driggers had a Parole Warrant. Both subjects were charged with Evading Arrest and Fleeing the Scene of an Accident; and were transported to the Freestone County Jail.
Other violations were found inside the vehicle and are under investigation. Additional charges may follow.
Assisting in the chase and arrest were Fairfield PD, Texas DPS, Texas Park Police, Texas Game Wardens, Freestone County Sheriff’s Office, and Freestone County Constables.
