Taking law enforcement on a late night chase that ended in a crash on Thursday, February 7, 2019, was Justin King, 45, of Streetman.
King is currently in Freestone County Jail charged with seven counts of theft of a firearm, theft of over $2,500, but under $30,000 and evading arrest.
A defective brake light had Freestone County Deputy Justin Campbell attempting to pull King over just before midnight on Thursday near FM 246 and I-45.
King refused to pull over and took off at a high rate of speed. The chase ran along the I-45 Service Road, Highway 75, Spur 114, and into downtown Streetman before King lost control and crashed on FM 246 near CR 1031.
Deputy Campbell removed King out of the passenger-side door due to damage sustained on the driver’s side door, and placed him under arrest.
Upon identifying the suspect, it was found that he had a total of eight warrants for his arrest out of Freestone County.
Sergeant Preston Cordova of Freestone County Sheriff’s Office had recently located several firearms and other property belonging to a victim that did not yet know that they were a victim of theft. After Sergeant Cordova contacted the victim, a complaint and charges were filed, resulting in the eight warrants.
“We had been looking for him,” said Freestone County Sheriff Jeremy Shipley. “It’s good we caught up to him on a routine traffic stop for a broken light.”
Assisting in the apprehension were Wortham Police Department, Fairfield Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, and Navarro County Sheriff’s Office.
