The Community Wide Leadership Group in Teague, Texas is looking for those who focus on investing into their community with their heart and not their words.
You probably have yet to hear of them because they are very new, but they are already actively working on bring positive changes to Teague.
This is a group of people who essentially, love the community, and want to work together to make it the best it can be.
City Administrator Theresa Bell-Prasil took time out of her busy schedule to explain what the new group is about, what their vision is, and why it was formed.
Last year in early Fall, the Teague Ministerial Alliance, a group of various churches inside the community who work together, reached out to leaders of the community including Teague schools, the City, and religious leaders.
Bell-Prasil explained that, “They wanted to work with others to help Teague not have the appearance of a community that had discord, through social media and word of mouth.”
During the newly formed group’s very first meeting, they realized that the communication problems existing within Teague were harming the community.
“It’s not the lack of communication, it can be, but it is lack of communication, miscommunication and false communications have been plaguing the community,” Bell-Prasil stated.
The Community Wide Leadership Group was formed to be a platform for people to work together to help conquer these issues.
Leaders in the community such as Superintendent Chris Skinner, City Administrator Theresa Bell-Prasil, Teague ISD Coach/ City of Teague Alderman Chris Nickleberry are active core members of this group.
The Vision of the Community Wide Leadership Group is to unite, improve and strengthen the quality of life in the City of Teague.
They will be combining efforts across Teague; Chamber of Commerce, EDC, other civic groups, and individuals.
The group primarily wants to make the community more attractive and appealing to individuals, businesses, and organizations.
“What brings people to a community? Everything, but you know what it revolves around?” Bell-Prasil asks, “Economics.” She answers.
She further details a variety of things that falls under the realm of the city’s economy:
–Public Safety
–Jobs
–Parks for children
–Good school systems
–Housing
–Visually appealing
–Mentality of the community
–Support system among those who make the community
You might be wondering; how can I help? Be positive, reach out to those in charge and ask questions if you do not know something, and ask what you can do to help.
The members of the group are challenging themselves to share Teague positive post or pictures on Facebook.
The group is in the beginning stages, but they want to find a way to make communication flow to have an effective way to reach to community.
As they work on improving communication, one of the problems is how to best reach the entire community.
Not everyone uses Social Media, reads the newspaper, or goes online for social media.
One thing everyone has is a mailing address.
Postage is one thing they would need to reach the entire population.
The group meets every six weeks and has their next meeting on February 27, 2020 at 11:15 a.m. at City Hall.
If you are willing to put your heart into this effort and work together with this group, check out what all they are doing.
