Mrs. Hazel Grace Mayes, 93 of Fairfield, passed March 13, 2017 at the Fairview Manor Nursing Home in Fairfield,TX.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 17, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Jones United Methodist Church in Fairfield, TX. with Rev. Walter Franklin, Officiating and Dr. Jesse E. Mayes, Eulogist. Interment followed at the Fairfield Methodist Cemetery.

Mrs. Hazel Grace Mayes was born April 23, 1923 in Fairfield, Texas to the parentage of Horace and Ida Belle Newsom. She received her formal education in the Fairfield/Dogan School District graduating high school in 1941 from Dogan, and graduated from Texas College in 1949.
Mrs. Hazel Grace Mayes accepted Christ in her life and united with the Oak Grove Methodist Church.
She united in marriage to Rev. Amos M. Mayes and to this union one child was born.
Mrs. Hazel Grace Mayes was a member of the St. James United Methodist Church where she served as First Lady, and she also served as First Lady of the Jones Chapel United Methodist Church.
She was a retired School Teacher. Her teaching career included the Myrtle Grove, Dogan, Montgomery and Corsicana School Districts. Her hobbies were cooking and gardening.
Mrs. Hazel Grace Mayes was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Amos Mayes, and son Harvell Glenn Mayes.
Survivors: Brother, Ezell Packer; grandchildren; Sonya Gibson(Greg) and Naisha Walker; she is also survived by one of seven step-children she raised, Jesse E. Mayes (Virginia); one step-grandson, Lawrence Mayes; other relatives and friends.
