“Hank the Cowdog” is coming to Fairfield! John Erickson , one of the country’s most loved children’s authors, will be on the square on October 1 as part of TSAC’s annual Fairfield Fall Arts Fest. Erickson will be reading excerpts from his books, self-accompanied with vocals & banjo-strumming.
Though Erickson has written and published many other books & articles, he is best known for his “Hank the Cowdog” series. Through the eyes of Hank, a smelly smart-aleck Head of Ranch Security, Erickson gives readers a glimpse of daily life on a ranch in the West Texas Panhandle. His works have won a number of awards, including the Oppenheimer, Wrangler and Lamplighter Awards, and have been published in four other languages.
In conjunction with this event, the entire month of September has been declared “Hank the Cowdog Month” by the libraries of Freestone County. Students of Fairfield Independent School District are expecting to become more acquainted with Hank and will be creating “Freestone Critters” of their own. The results will be displayed at the event for all to enjoy.
“It will be a great day where all ages can enjoy Hank along with many other activities such as a marionette show, hands-on art projects, dedication of murals, face-painting, balloon art, a scarecrow contest, dancers & musicians,” according to Kim Ratcliff, coordinator of the event.
