The new Disc Golf Course in Fairfield, Texas is set to host the first major tournament this Saturday, July 11, 2020.

Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. under the Green Pavilion inside the Fairgrounds, very close to the impressive hole 18.

This tournament is a flex start, meaning that you can throw during the open hours of 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The singles tournament cost $22 per person to play with no player limit, there will be no doubles or team setup this time.

The pros will be taking home a cash prize and the amateurs will receive be receiving discs and/or merchandise.

Anyone looking to jump right in with the tournament can get their discs at Jolly’s at 630 Hwy 84 in Fairfield, or head to the display at Ward Sign Company located at 107 E Hwy 84.

Keep in mind that social distancing will be expected, with groups limited to five people.

Remember to respect everyone in the park that includes people who are not playing disc golf, and no contact with another person’s disc.

The idea of the game is to complete the course with the least number of throws as possible. You throw from that hole’s tee, and you throw again wherever your disc lands until you make it to the hole.

The course layout sets a fun challenge for players, and has turned some previously unused land inside the Park into a fun and active outdoor activity for all ages.

A vast portion of the course is mixed with trees and offers some shade for a fun, yet hot, July day. The new course has more than one creative location, such as hole 16 were the disc will sail over the pond and hole 18 that makes use of the old baseball backstop near the show arena.

Do not forget to check out hole 18 and the large banner, it has rules and information, plus any ads that businesses chose to include.

Definitions

A stroke is when you take the disc and throw it to move it to a new location, and every throw is counted as a stroke during a game.

The starting point for each hole is called a tee or tee pad.

A supporting point is any part of the thrower’s body in contact with the playing surface or any other surface that provides support, at the moment the disc is released.

The lie is any place the disc comes to rest and the player prepares for their next throw, it is the tee at the beginning of each hole.

A mini marker disc is a small disc, not used in play that may mark the lie.

Any throw made within 10 meters of the target is called a putt and a player must maintain balance and stance through the putt and until the disc comes to rest.

An out-of-bounds (OB) area is where a disc may not be played or a stance taken.

When a disc comes to rest it establishes a position.

A target is an item that clearly shows the completion of a hole.

A Basket or Target isdesigned to catch discs and generally consists of a tray, chains, and a chain support mounted on a pole.

While an object target generally has a marked target area.

When the last group playing has completed their final hole that is called the completion of a round.

A provisional throw is an extra throw that is not added to a player’s score if it is not ultimately used in the completion of the hole. The player must inform the group that a throw is provisional prior to making it.

A practice throw is any throw that is not made as a competitive attempt to change the lie, with the exception of a throw that is made either to set aside an unused disc or to return a disc to a player and that travels less than five meters in the air.
