A family vacation went off the rails for a Freestone County couple earlier this month.
Navlet and Michael Daniels were just two days into a cruise to Cozumel, Mexico with the family when they were in a motor scooter accident that left them with several severe injuries.
Thankfully, daughter Fruncheska Jenkins is a nurse and son Michael Daniels, Jr. a military medic. They stepped up when it appeared that the local emergency room staff were not responding to their parents’ trauma and injuries.
In less than 24 hours, they arranged an emergency flight from Mexico back to Houston, Texas.
According to Fruncheska, her dad was officially released with multiple fractures that are non-operable but is doing okay.
On the other hand, her mother was admitted to a trauma unit and has undergone 1 of 2 surgeries for her injuries. She sustained a clavicle fracture, 5 rib fractures, a fracture to her arm and a very bad fracture to her leg.
Navlet Daniels has since been released to be cared for at home. “The swelling in her leg is still pretty significant to where they can’t do surgery yet, but hopefully next week’s check up she’s good to go,” said Fruncheska.
While in Mexico, the family paid over $50,000 in cash to the hospital (even though they had insurance), plus the emergency flight home.
This has emptied the savings of both adult children.
A Go Fund Me account has been set up to assist the family in caring for their parents through their healing journey.

“We are forever grateful for everyone’s prayers and love; please keep them coming because it keeps us going!” said Fruncheska.
