Funeral services for Mrs. Gloria Joyce White were held on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague. Bro. Carl Clark will officiate. Interment followed at Dew Cemetery.
Mrs. White passed peacefully on April 28, 2023, at Fairfield Nursing and Rehab Center.
She was born near Dew, Texas on June 8, 1935, to Marjorie and Alton Willbanks, and she resided in the area her entire life. She and her four siblings lost their mother while still very young and were raised by their father and grandmother. From a young age, family was the most important thing in Gloria’s life.
She married Charles Royce White on September 5, 1952, and they shared more than 65 years together. Early in their marriage, they welcome a son, Charles David, and then a daughter, Linda Karen. Mrs. White held several jobs over the years, including work in retail and as an aide at the Dew School. But her favorite role was always that of mother and grandmother – and she was mama and Granny to many people, both family and friends. She was a longtime member of Corinth Baptist Church, were she played piano and taught Sunday School for many years.
She was also an active and beloved member of the Dew Community. People regularly stopped by to visit with Miss Gloria, and you could often find her rocking on her front porch.
She is survived by one daughter, Linda Hullun & husband Wayman of Teague; six grandchildren, David White & wife Monique, Jason Hullum & wife Becky, Joseph White, Justin Hullum, Rhianna Griffin & husband Chris, and Dylan White; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Brantner of Dew; and numerous other family members and friends.
Mrs. White was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles; her son, Charlie White; and three brothers, Bill Willbanks, Weldon Willbanks, and Compton Willbanks.
