Freestone County Game Wardens Shawna Poole and John Thorne posted a PSA on Facebook last week regarding wild turkeys in the area. It states:
“We have received multiple calls about wild turkeys being spotted in the county. TPWD released turkeys in our area in the recent past to establish a population here. It seems like it is working!
“You may come across some turkeys and notice that they don’t seem skittish right now, and that is because of the rut.
“Just know that there is NOT a turkey season for Freestone County, and you CANNOT harvest one of these birds if you see them. Just let them be.”
