I would like to thank Sheriff-Elect Jeremy Shipley for immediately alerting us to a mistake we made in last week’s front page article concerning actions recently taken by Freestone County Commissioners.
The County had been wrestling with several issues that involved employees in recent months. The last several Commissioners Court meetings had been conducted before a full room of concerned citizens, employees and elected officials; many of whom vocalized their opinions quite ardently.
Unfortunately, two of these statements were incorrectly attributed to Sheriff-Elect Shipley, including the first paragraph in Freestone County Times’ front page article.
A statement was quickly posted on our Facebook pages to alert readers of the error. Then, the corrected article was uploaded to our website.
A formal correction appears in this week’s print edition on page 3-A.
We have since gone back through our reporter notes to see how the mistake occurred so that the mistake will not be repeated.
Again, The “Times” appreciates being informed quickly about the error, and we will strive to do better.
