“I thought I would be a good fit for the community,” says Fairfield’s newest doctor about his co-workers and new home base.
Mark Waweru, M.D. joined the Freestone Health Clinic on August 3, 2020 after being recruited by CEO John Yeary.
His last name is pronounced Wah-Where-Roo, but many know him as Dr. Mark.
This is Dr. Waweru’s first job as an independent doctor, having finished his residency in Buffalo, New York in June. He graduated from medical school in Buffalo, as well, having completed his undergraduate work in Massachusetts.
“I like it here,” says Dr. Mark, who has been seeing patients every day.
A general practitioner, Dr. Waweru enjoys internal medicine, and he hopes to expand his practice by working at the hospital, as well as the clinic.
Dr. Mark can perform various office procedures, including joint injections, skin biopsies, laceration repairs, joint reduction, splinting, as well as gynecological procedures.
He puts an emphasis on preventative medicine, saying early detection is the key to good health.
Although he welcomes patients of all ages, Dr. Mark says he enjoys talking with older patients, as they have much wisdom to share.
Originally born in Kenya, Dr. Waweru came to the United States in 2007, and has family living in North Texas.
Dr. Mark says he was born into a Christian family and faith is very important to him. He is currently looking for a church in the area.
Dr. Mark is an avid sports fan who enjoys both watching and participating in games. He grew up playing soccer, but found that football was more important in America. He has also been learning the rules of basketball, as well.
“Hopefully I will be able to get people interested in playing once a week,” he says.
Gardening is another passion of his, having learned from his family. Dr. Mark enjoys growing tomatoes, corn, kale, peppers, and onions.
Be sure to welcome Dr. Mark Waweru to the community.
New patients may make an appointment with him by calling 903-389-2181.
