Freestone County resident, Nelda Gray, 78, was the victim of floodwaters on Tuesday, July 7, 2020.

A release from Freestone County Sheriff Jeremy Shipley states that at 12:49 p.m. dispatch received a report of County Road 111 being washed away, and that a vehicle might possibly be underwater in Walnut Creek.

Around the same time, a notification was received that Mrs. Gray was missing and driving a black vehicle, as per the report.

Freestone County Water Rescue Teams were dispatched to the scene.

Two different water rescue boats searched Walnut Creek, also known as Cottonwood Creek, one from each end, for approximately two hours.

The report states that, when the water began going back down, a black Lexus bumper was pulled from the water, and was identified as part of the vehicle Mrs. Gray was driving.

At two hours and forty-five minutes into the search, individuals assisting located her on the east side of Walnut Creek.

She was deceased when located, as per the report.

As of the time of the report, the vehicle had not been located. Once the water level has gone down, the search teams will search for and plan the extraction of the vehicle.

Sheriff Shipley ended the release with a request, to pray for the family, but also to pray for the First Responders as well.
