April 10:  Today was the beginning of National Telecommunicators Week which is celebrated April 10th – 16th this year. Being a Dispatcher is one of the hardest most stressful jobs not only in our profession but in any profession. Our Dispatchers are literally the lifeline of our entire communication system for Freestone County First Responders. April 12:  The Freestone County Sheriff’s Office welcomed 130 Fairfield First Graders today as they toured downtown Fairfield. It’s a pleasure to be able to connect with the kids and hopefully plant good seeds for them to grow, make good decisions, and have trust with the local law enforcement. It was a fun day and the kids were very well behaved. We explained several different aspects of the Sheriff’s Office as we went through 4 different phases; besides the office itself, one included the Sheriff in a jumper, our recreation area, and of course a patrol vehicle with lights where they could crawl through and look around. The children were able to see familiar faces and meet new ones while they visited, such as Deputies Howerton, Fogle, Shaw, and Cordova, Jailer Brandi Griffin, Dispatcher Susan Taylor, and Chief Deputy Devin Mowrey. We hope the children had as much fun as we did.

April 13: Freestone County 9-1-1 is back up and running. Thank you Limestone County Dispatchers for your assistance.

ATT and Verizon put in a new 9-1-1 router.  During that time, all emergency calls went through Limestone County.

Remember 9-1-1 is for Emergency purposes only and all other calls or reports should come through the Freestone County Sheriff’s Office line of 903-389-3236.

April 14:  Many citizens gathered for a great evening with Senator John Cornyn in Corsicana tonight that included Congressman Joe Barton, Freestone County Sheriff Jeremy Shipley, Navarro County Sheriff Elmer Tanner, Limestone County Sheriff Dennis Wilson, and Navarro County Emergency Management Coordinator Eric Meyers. It was a privilege to meet and be able speak with Senator Cornyn regarding issues that law enforcement is having with mental health and unfunded mandates involving training. We received a few updates regarding EPA standards, veteran affairs, healthcare, and tax reform.

As your Sheriff I will continue to voice our local issues to our representatives as I have the privilege to do so in order to try and assist Freestone County in being the best we can be.

I would like to say a special THANK YOU to Mr. Eric Meyers for the invitation tonight and also being instrumental in connecting myself with all the representatives I’ve been able to meet and speak with in the past 4 months. Mr. Meyers, I appreciate you and your family very much for assisting me so I may serve our citizens better and be a voice for our communities.
