Every February, the U.S. honors the contributions and sacrifices of African Americans who have helped shape the nation. Black History Month celebrates the rich cultural heritage, triumphs and adversities that are a part of our country’s history.
February was chosen primarily because the second week of the month coincides with the birthdays of both Abraham Lincoln, who was influential in the emancipation of slaves, and Frederick Douglass, a former slave who was a prominent leader in the abolitionist movement, which fought to end slavery.
The FCSO proudly recognizes 2 African American firsts in the profession of law enforcement:
–The first African American male Police Officer was Samuel Jesse Battle – Hired by NYPD in 1911
–The first African American female Police Officer was Georgia Ann Robinson – Hired by LAPD in 1919
True trailblazers for the law enforcement profession.
On Sunday, January 30, 2022, shortly after 9pm, Deputy Campbell was dispatched to a report of a shooting that took place on Hwy 84 near CR 601. The reporting party advised that a known vehicle had pulled up beside them while driving and fired multiple shots from the suspect vehicle into the victim’s vehicle. Upon making contact with the victims, a possible suspect was immediately known due to the vehicle description and prior comments that had been made by the suspect to the victims.
An investigation was done on scene at that time and this morning the investigation continued as well as trying to locate the suspect.
An arrest warrant for the suspect was obtained by CID Sgt. Cordova and early this evening the suspect was located and placed under arrest for the charge of Aggravated Assault Date/Family/House with a Weapon (1st Degree Felony).
Once suspect was apprehended and interviewed, suspect admitted to the crime.
Good quick work to insure these actions did not continue and to prevent anyone from getting hurt or worse.
