On 1/14/24, an FCSO Deputy had swung on by the local Dollar General in Fairfield to pick up a few things. Unbeknownst to him, he would be picking up more than he was going shopping for.
On arrival, the manager of the store informed our Deputy that she had just observed a male individual that was currently inside the store trying to steal items on the store security cameras; one of the items being socks.
Our FCSO Deputy found and confronted the individual inside the store. After a quick safety pat down search inside the store, our Deputy walked the individual outside for further questioning and a more thorough pat down. There were no items found on his person that were stolen from the store, but there was 1.6 grams of Methamphetamine found in his pocket.
Follow-up with the store manager revealed that the male subject was observed on camera putting stuff back after he saw our Deputy in the store.
So, what we have here is a thwarted theft attempt because he never actually left the store with any items, but what was gonna be a theft attempt because he spent the money he did have on the purchase of 1.6 grams of illegal narcotics instead…… and now his feet are cold.
The male subject was placed under arrest for the following charge :
* Possession Controlled Substance PG
1 more than 1 gram less than 4 grams
…and provided nice, warm, clean socks in jail.
Good observation by the store manager and good timing by the Deputy.

On 1/17/24, FCSO Deputy Leatherman attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle in Teague. Instead of pulling over, the male driver of the vehicle decided to flee from the Deputy in his vehicle. The driver fled and eventually pulled into a driveway where he then jumped out of the vehicle and led Deputy Leatherman on a short foot pursuit before he was taken into custody.
Not a good combination when your not fleet of thought nor fleet of foot….. meaning you can’t run away from your bad decisions.
The male subject was then patted down prior to being secured in the back of the patrol car. It would be way to easy for us to end the story there, now wouldn’t it. The suspect then decided he needed to get rid of the narcotics that he had hidden where the sun don’t shine in the backseat of the patrol car….. this also might have been why he was running so slow. Obviously, our Deputy recovered the narcotics which consisted of approximately 23 grams of Methamphetamine, 2.3 grams of Psilocybin Mushrooms (Shrooms), and less than a gram of Crack Cocaine.
The subject was booked into the Freestone County Jail on the following charges:
* Manufacturing/Delivery of Controlled
Substance PG 1 more than 4 grams
less then 200 grams – 1st degree
Felony
* Possession Controlled Substance PG
2 more then 1 gram less then 4
grams – 3rd degree Felony
* Poss Controlled Substance PG 1 less
than gram – State Jail Felony
* Tampering with Physical Evidence
3rd degree Felony
* Evading Arrest or Detention with
Vehicle – 3rd degree Felony
If you’re counting, that’s 5 Felonies. Even the magic mushrooms ain’t gonna take him far enough way from this problem.
Assisting was Teague PD Officer Hutchinson and FCSO Deputy Fogle.
