The sounds of guitars, bass, piano and mouth harp and beautiful songs will fill the air as Lakeside Methodist Church presents its Fifth Sunday Sing concert, Sunday, April 30, at 6:15 pm.
Retired acoustic entertainers Tex & Mary Schutz will kick off the concert with a few of their favorite old hymns, then will bring up local singer Ron Haley who’ll join the couple for some three-part harmony renditions of favorite selections. The Muleskinners, a group from the Fairfield-Teague area, will complete the program with some instrumental antics, old-timey harmonies and lively tunes. That newly-formed group is an off-shoot of the Always, Patsy Cline musical stage show that showed to public acclaim in Teague in January and in Palestine in April. The Muleskinners is comprised of Daron Stone on keyboard, Samuel Bounds on drums, Steven Yates on guitar and Jeff Harrison on bass, with Dan Woods stepping in on harmonica.
“All in all, the evening will be a hand-clapping, uplifting experience for those who love the old, traditional style of gospel music,” said Mary Schutz. “It’s a chance to experience that ‘old country church’ feeling that many of us grew up with.”
A reception with refreshments will follow the concert. There is no charge for the concert, but attendees are asked to bring a canned item for the church’s Food Pantry box, if they’re able. Lakeside Methodist is located at 515 FM 416, in the St. Elmo community.
