Frances Pickens, 89, of Oakwood, passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2020 in Fairfield. Graveside services were held 2:00 P.M. Friday, May 22, 2020 at Fairfield Cemetery with her son, Bro. Walter Pickens officiating. Interment followed. Pallbearers were Joe Reid, Larry Pickens, II, Trenton Pickens, Chris Pickens, James William Grant, Joe Hughes and Brent Beene. H. Randy Turner served as an honorary pallbearer.
Mrs. Pickens was born September 11, 1930 in Fairfield to parents William Walter and Mary Grace Lambert Freeman. She was a lifelong resident of Freestone County and a graduate of Fairfield High School. She married Talmage B. Pickens on June 16, 1948. She was a longtime member of Memorial Baptist Church in Oakwood and played piano there for 35 years. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son, Stanley Wayne Pickens; a brother, Curtis Bryan Freeman and a sister, Geraldine Hartsfield.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Talmage B. Pickens; three sons, Walter Talmage Pickens and wife Mabel of Teague; Larry Joe Pickens and wife Rosemary of Oakwood; Jerry David Pickens of Fairfield; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
