U.S. Representative Bill Flores (R-Texas) is requesting nominations for the 2016 TX-17 Congressional Veterans Commendation, a special tribute to honor local veterans’ military and community service.
“Our nation’s veterans selflessly served our country so that we can enjoy blessings of freedom and liberty.
After leaving the military, many of our veterans continue their service by helping out in our local communities. Their dedication is admirable and worthy of recognition,” Congressman Flores said. “I am humbled to carry on our local tradition of honoring deserving veterans with the TX-17 Congressional Veterans Commendation. Every year, I look forward to reviewing the nominations made by members of our community and ultimately commending our veterans for their exemplary service to our communities and nation.”
The TX-17 Congressional Veteran Commendation was created by Congressman Flores in 2012 to honor and recognize distinguished veterans of the 17th Congressional District of Texas. To be eligible for nomination, veterans must currently reside in the 17th Congressional District and have served both our nation and our communities honorably during their military and post-military careers.
This year’s recipients will be announced on Veterans Day, November 11, 2016. Ceremonies to honor the recipients will be announced at a later date.
For more information regarding the commendation and to nominate a veteran visit Flores.house.gov or contact Jessica McKinney at (254) 732-0748. The submission deadline for nominations is Friday, October 28, 2016.
