The Freestone County Retired Teachers Association had its regular meeting on Wednesday, November, 2017; at the Navarro College Fairfield Campus at 10:30 a.m. President Donna Senter presided over the meeting.
The Fairfield Intermediate School Choir under the direction of Natalie Cherry entertained the group with four songs reflecting pride for our country and for our Veterans.
Following the recognition of our visiting veterans, Alicia Smith led us in pledges to the American and Texas flags.
Carol Chappell presented an Inspirational Moment by reading a poem written to honor our veterans.
Terry Dunlap introduced our guest speaker, Mr. David Fox. Mr. Fox served in the U.S. Navy. He Fox related a story of an American B-17 pilot who at the age of 21 managed to return his crew and plane after suffering heavy damage to both. His encounter on the return flight with a German pilot is related in a book by Makos, A Higher Call.

Donna Housewright thanked Sue Terry, Libby Harris and Terry Dunlap for helping with the Book Giveaway. They gave away 294 children’s books. Also, a motion was made to donate $25 to the Retired Teachers Foundation.
Terry Dunlap expects the Yearbook to be completed for the December meeting.
Alicia Smith gave an update on the Legislature: neither Byron Cook or Rep. Strauss are seeking re-election. Alicia encouraged everyone to read, listen and be informed and VOTE.
The health reminder was given by Jerri McBay. She reminded everyone of the importance of eating a variety of fruits and vegetables.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:40 a.m.
The next scheduled meeting is Wednesday, December 13. The meeting will include a live auction by Don Beene and a pot luck lunch with each person bringing a “Festive Finger Food” for everyone to enjoy. The auction will be the fundraiser for FCRT.
