A $66,875 bond for updating computers and technology for each school library, PreK and Kindergarten classes, and Junior High and High School teachers was approved last week by Fairfield ISD Board of Trustees.
Technology Director, Arland Thill, explained the district’s needs; and after viewing bids for the project, Trustees voted to approve the bid from WBCS – Wayne Bonner, who is not only a local business, but gave the best bid price.
With Fairfield ISD in the process of becoming a School of Innovation, pending acceptance in June, the 2017-2018 school year’s proposed first day of school is August 16, 2017.
The proposed school calendar includes 11 Teacher In-Service Days, 4 Staff Development Comp Days, 24 Holiday/No School Days, 4 Early Release Days, and 9 STAAR Testing Days.
Graduation 2018 is slated for Friday, May 25, 2018.
Current student enrollment is at 1,833 as of April 1, 2017. It breaks down as follows: High School has 526 students, Junior High has 401, Intermediate has 432, and Elementary has 474. Fourth Grade has the highest number of students with a total of 156. Average attendance rate is 95% and above.
During this meeting, Trustees voted on meal prices for the 2017-2018 school year.
The district is required to gradually increase prices for those not receiving free or reduced benefits so they are not subsidizing meals with federal funds.
Prices were not increased for the 2016-2017 school year; and based on calculations determined by the USDA, the district is required to meet an average paid price of $2.65 for paid lunches.
New prices will be: Elementary & Intermediate – Breakfast $1.40 & Lunch $2.25; Junior High – Breakfast $1.45 & Lunch $2.50; and High School – Breakfast $1.60 & Lunch $2.75. Tier II Lunches at the Jr. High and High School will be $3.25.
Also at this meeting, Trustees accepted resignations at the end of their contracts from Johnny Ward, Gina Gilliam, and Amanda Leland.
Certified Teachers hired for the 2017-2018 school year include Alexa Alderson, Anissa Curtis, Sheila Judkins, Timothy Judkins, Kimberly Myers, Sisha Palacio, Leanne Payne, and Rachel Young.
Mr. Tony Price is serving as Interim Superintendent while Trustees continue to look for the right person to fill that position.
