Freestone Medical Center made a public announcement on Tuesday, April 14, 2020 to inform the public a test did come back positive in Freestone County.
As of Monday, April 20, 2020, that count is up to three citizens of the county being infected with COVID-19, according to positive test results.
The three citizens reside in Teague, Texas and are male. One is in his 40’s, another in his 30’s and another in his 20’s.
Freestone Medical explained in their announcement that they have spent the prior six weeks preparing for this day by implementing various actions at the hospital and clinics.
The long list of preparations includes special acceptance areas for possible COVID-19 patients, limited non-essential visitors to the hospital, protection for their staff with appropriate PPE and maintain proper PPE inventory, as well as many other things.
They, along with Freestone County Commisioners, Freestone County Sheriff’s Office, the City of Teague and the City of Fairfield, encourage people to continue practicing social distancing, washing your hands often, covering your coughs and sneezes (with a tissue or using the inside of your elbow), eating healthy and exercising appropriately. Also, to follow the new recommendation to wear a face cloth properly while in public.
Freestone County Judge Linda Grant request, “Please don’t slack off,” as she points out that, “We, as a County, are all in this together.”

Of those tested, twenty-one were conducted in Freestone County, with three being positive.
