Hurricane Harvey took its toll on the cross country team this past Saturday. Due to refugee aid being based at the Kate Barr-Ross Park in Huntsville, Coach Katie Wade found the team another meet. The substitute meet took place at the University of Texas in Tyler.
The JV girls competed first, the top runner was Melanie Pina who placed 20th out of about 200 competitors.
Kailee Marchand finished 28th, Diana Casteneda finished 44th, Andrea Jauregui finished 85th, Coral Chavez finished 115th, Hannah Leatherman finished 124th, Alex Casteneda finished 148th, and Anahy Munoz competed with the team. The team placed 10th out of 26 teams.
Next to compete were the varsity girls. Madison Smith was the top runner from Fairfield and the race itself, Smith placed 1st overall.
The next Lady Eagle to finish was Morgan Coleman who placed 4th, Alexis Rodriguez placed 22nd, Victoria Donohoo placed 36th, Ashlyn Partain placed 47th, Erica McQuinn placed 49th, Brooke Leatherman placed 72nd, Natalia Salazar, Michelle Rosales, and Jenny Pina also competed in the race. The girls placed 1st beating the second place team by only one point.
This time Fairfield had a JV boys team as well. The top runner for the boys was Tye Farmer in 17th place, next was Jeremy Long in 57th place, Noah Van in 89th place, David West in 150th place, and Eddie Sanchez in 204th place. Overall the boys placed 19th out of 34 teams.
The last race to take place was the varsity boys. Hunter Noland finished 16th, Andy Smith finished 24th, Bryce Harrison finished 27th, Joey Davis finished 56th, Deandre Rosales finished 66th, and Landon Espinoza finished 89th. Varsity boys finished in the top ten teams in sixth place.
Fairfield athletes will travel to Canton on Saturday, September 16th, for their next race.
