Keith Harrup, winner of Harley-Davidson of Waco’s Motorcycle Madness (above) which was reported in last week’s paper, died on Friday night, September 14, 2018, we often see people getting injured on a motorcycle but this case was a tragedy, we lost someone incredible.
Harrup was killed in a motorcycle accident near Kirvin while riding with one of his friends when a deer stepped in the roadway. He swerved to avoid hitting the deer and ran into a tree, sadly, he wasn’t wearing one of his bell helmets that he typically uses, if he would have he could have saved his life.

Harrup grew up in Freestone County near Kirvin and graduated Wortham High School with the Class of 2003.
After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served more than six years.
Harrup completed three 12-month tours of duty during his service, one in Afghanistan and two in Iraq, earning numerous decorations and medals for his service to the country. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Iraq to work private security.
Visitation was held on Tuesday with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague.
Funeral services were on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Teague.
Interment followed the services at Woodland Cemetery near Kirvin with an honor guard provided by the U. S. Army.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the veteran’s support group online.
